FIRST IMPRESSION:
An easy-enough-going presence who's somewhat awkward. Quick to smile and try to find conversation hooks. Definitely comes off delicate and sheltered, but doesn't seem to let either thing hold him back.VOICE:
FEATURES:
Described as small, thin and nearly delicate in the script, Jake is not an intimidating figure. His curly hair is usually cut short and quickly becomes unmanageable. He's not unattractive, but isn't traditional movie star attractive. His charm points are his eyes and dimples when he smiles.

Personality
💧 The kind of person who can just walk into a room and just find a way to fit.
💧 Fairly mild-mannered and easy-going, he'll talk about anything that comes to mind with just about anyone.
💧 A little unfiltered, a little awkward.
💧 A little rigid in some aspects of his life, particularly about in how he should do things for himself.
💧 Genuinely caring and concerned about others and unafraid to speak his mind or act if he thinks it'll help them. He doesn't think about the consequences of doing such things.
💧 Feisty when triggered and isn't quick to back down.
💧 Trying to handle his illness on his own without worrying others, but stops for others as to not leave them to their own troubles.
💧I'll fancy this up more sometime when my brain wants to do a personality section.

History
💧 Born and raised in Connecticut to a rich family. Grew up in a progressive area in a well off area that he is somewhat sheltered.
💧 Distantly related to William Clark of Lewis and Clark fame. His dad has a cousin who is a Clark. He's loved the idea of the Lewis and Clark trail and has obsessed over the journals since he was little. It's the idea of something more to be discovered rather than the people that allure him.
💧 When he was really young his mother fell down some concrete stairs and shattered her kneecap. She was always in pain after that and fell into drug abuse to deal with it.
💧 Jake states that when he came home from school for years he never knew which version of his mom he would meet.
💧 His parents divorced when he was twelve and his mother went into rehab. After she left she would say she only took the pills because his father made her unhappy and now she's more interested in realigning her chakras.
💧 He lived with his father after the divorce and at some point made him put a land acknowledgement sign outside of their house for representation of the Pequot and Mohegan peoples.
💧 At some point in his childhood, he nearly drowned. He says it's not at all like the movies and his father hadn't noticed despite being nearby. He was lucky for the lifeguard seeing him. He's terrified of the ocean, yet still wants to see the Pacific for himself.
💧 Jake came out as gay to his parents when he was fourteen. They were, in his words, totally cool with it to the point of being annoying.
💧 He went to an equally progressive college where the students made their own majors and graded their teachers at the end of the semester. Jake's major was Post-Colonial Gender Studies (this is apparently a real major, at least).
💧 In the past six months, Jake received the news that he has a degenerative neurological disease, juvenile Huntington's disease, and that in this progressive form he won't live more than eight years/in to his thirties.
💧 His long-time boyfriend breaks up with him after realizing they wouldn't have a future together.
💧 Jake decides to leave home without telling anyone a few months later. He wants to see the Lewis and Clark trail for himself before it's too late and, more specifically, to find some meaning in the little time he has left. Is there anything new left to discover?
💧 It takes days longer than it should and when his leg stops responding while driving and he nearly crashes, Jake becomes too afraid to continue. He ends up in Clarkston, WA close to where Lewis and Clark once camped.
💧 Not wanting to call his father for him home and feeling trapped in Clarkston, he decides to try to do something different, normal, in his life - He applies for a job as overnight stocker at the Costco across the street from his hotel. This is where the play begins.

a copy of clarkston audio recording and a pdf of the script can be found here.
the script is a slightly older edition/longer due to the london production shortening some of it
CHRIS: Do you do this — a lot?
JAKE: Are you asking if I'm a slut?
CHRIS: Wait are you - have you never done this before?
JAKE: Look, to be honest until now I've been borderline puritanical, I wouldn't even have sex with my boyfriend until we'd been dating for - I've just always been that way and I thought this one fucking time I could just - You have this idea in your head of the person you could be - but it turns out you're just the same asshole you've always been.

perms
shipping: as jake is canonically gay m/m only for anything serious, misfires okay otherwise
cross-canon/assumed cr: all forms are okay, i don't care about mediums
physical touch: as a general rule i am okay with your character moving/touching mine as a scene needs it so long as it makes sense. in example - if they've discussed moving or they would hug them without rebuke but not sudden violently grabbing them and carting them away unless we've discussed it.
smut: okay in memes if i've posted in them up to both of our preferences! i'm still new to writing it in general so may make mistakes/ask to ftb sometimes. smut will only ever be between of age characters.
backtagging: i will tag log-styled meme tags until we're both done with it! texts i tend to burn out of faster and tfln slows on my computer so those i will drop more often but if you want to continue please feel free to hmu!
cw: jake has attempted/talked about suicide in the past. he also has juvenile huntington's disease with a diagnosis of eight years. while as a general rule i will avoid putting them in memes - which are for fun - and will try to treat both respectfully, i understand if people don't want to engage with it! i will never put it somewhere without discussing with a partner/labeling it in subject tags
